Pad Preparation
The preparation of the pad for a Kingspan Rhino tank is the responsibility of the customer. If crusher dust is not available in your area please insist on using screened sand from your local area (please do not use recycled sand as it may contain contaminants). Pad Preparation
Please be aware that you will need to prepare a sand pad that is 2 metres larger in diameter than that of the chosen tank diameter for tanks 2.27m and 2.31m high. For tanks that are 3.45m high, the minimum pad diameter required is 4 meters larger than the chosen tank diameter.
The pad must be at least 150mm deep, and free of vegetation. The pad and sub-soil must be level, with a preferred base material of free draining sand (to within approximately 10mm). Any sharp objects, clay lumps, stones etc. must also be removed (The pad base material must be to screened sand standard. Crusher dust is also acceptable at 5mm aggregate size or less).
Liners
At Holmes Water Tanks we are experts at tank liners, especially odd shapes and sizes.
These include rural and domestic liners for drinking water and livestock. Industrial and Commercial liners for fire water storage or irrigation etc. We are able to reline almost any type of existing concrete or steel water tank with a variety of materials to suit your needs.
In some cases a new modular tank may be a better option, though if your tank still has a long life left yet or is in an inaccessible spot, a liner might be your best option.
Liners are our preferred method of repair, especially leaking concrete tanks as they are independent of the tank. Any future movement or cracking within reason will not affect the liner.
Send through your tank dimensions and, if there are, any roof supports for an estimate or give us a call.
FAQs
What needs to be done before the tank is installed?
The preparation of the pad for a Kingspan Rhino tank is the responsibility of the customer. If crusher dust is not available in your area please insist on using screened sand from your local area (please do not use recycled sand as it may contain contaminants). It must be free of sticks,, stones and clay lumps (6mm diameter or less).
- Level Pad (+/- 10mm)
- Minimum thickness of pad is 150mm except for RT-310 and RT-365 which should have a minimum thickness of 250mm
The customer is required to place an exclusion zone of a minimum of 20mm Blue Metal/coarse aggregate (no clay or concrete) around the base of the tank after installation to prevent erosion and deter rodents from digging around the base.
How does the tank get to me?
We use a 4WD vehicle with a trailer to bring your tank to site.
What do I need to do after the tank is installed?
You will be required to add Water to your tank on the day of installation. This usually needs to be done around lunch time.
Your installer will let you know prior to installation what time the water is required. If you have access to water from another tank on site, you can set up for water to be transferred into the new tank.
If you do not have access to water, you will need to arrange for a Water truck to come to site at your own cost. Refer to your Pad Preparation Guide about the amount of water required for your size Water Tank.
How long does the installation take?
Most Installs take 1 day to install. Your installer can let you know when he books your tank in for installation.
